Style stumped a {CONTEST}

by LCW on February 28, 2011

in all about me

I’m style stumped.  I can put together a killer outfit, complete with the trendiest accessories and makeup…IN MY HEAD.  But when I try to make it happen…I fall flat…flat on my no make up face.  So this is where you come in.  I need your help.  I need you to dress me.  Seriously.

I’m the Godmother for my youngest niece, the Christening is being held in MA at the beginning of April.  My budget isn’t going to allow me to buy a whole new outfit + shoes + accessories.  I have to get creative, except I’m style stumped.

I plan on wearing this plain, sweater knit dress.  It’s really cute on, I wore it back in my teaching days with knee high boots.  But it’s painfully plain.  This is where you get to show off your style godess-ness and point me in the right direction with accessories, from head to toe.

The blank canvas:

The Rules: Accessorize me from head to toe.  What can I add to this dress to make it my own {with your help}.  My budget for this is $30 {which includes shipping if ordering online}.  I’m open to handmade shops or driving to the mall/Target {you get the idea}.  In the comment section below, include your ideas complete with links or store names, don’t forget my feet {wedges or boots?}.   Make this blank canvas look stylish and church appropriate.  Your ideas must be submitted by March 7th so I have time to shop and place orders.

The contest: The reader who puts together a look that I love and want to wear will win a Twenty Five Design handmade goodie.

Have fun, I can’t wait to see what you all come up with! And thank you, seriously!

*Twenty Five Design is sponsoring this post by giving the winner one of her specialty items, I am benefiting from your style knowledge, but not her freebies.

i was just going to suggest you ask torie. =) then i read the fine print.

i like boots. are you crafty? because this would be a cute brooch-http://sewritzytitzy.blogspot.com/2008/11/from-annas-gardenfabric-flower-tutorial.html

then maybe pair it with these: http://www.etsy.com/listing/60244687/sterling-earwires-with-square-rings-1?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_shopname=PetalMix&ga_ref=auto&ga_search_query=dangle+ear+rings&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade

and that’s all i got. i’m useless. really. good luck!

Since it’s in MA & will probably still be cold, I’d say the boots. I’ve been loving gold jewelry with brown this year. So I’d suggesting a longer gold necklace, Stella & Dot coco collection is one I have & love. You could pick up cheap gold studs at Target or Kohl’s. And add a funky/fun gold/brown cocktail ring. I don’t think you’d need a bracelet since the sleeves are pretty long.

Damn woman, that dress is KILLER on you.

Although I think I failed at them, colored tights are SUPER stylish right now and I think the gold ones from welovecolors would look adorable with the wedges: http://www.welovecolors.com/Shop/NylonOpaqueTights.htm
(Total: $13 including shipping)

And then wear Torie’s 25 Design Yellow Fabric Flower necklace: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62580875/honey-yellow-fabric-flower-rosette (which, let me tell you, is a STEAL compared to similar necklaces on Etsy). If you wanted to get fancy you could put these bobby pins in your hair too: http://www.etsy.com/listing/59562899/two-fabric-flower-rosette-bobby-pins-in

I think that comes in right around $30 and is definitely the kind of stylish out fit I put together in my head but can’t pull off.

Boots for sure…maybe some colored tights in plum? A cute belt around the waist might help too. Or maybe long necklaces (I love long necklaces!)

I usually fix boring by sticking something cute in my hair…a flower or a cute headband.

Hmmm…I sort of suck at this. I always go to twitter with my fashion questions!

You are crafty and can sew. So I suggest make a cute “wide” sash/belt with some “spring” floral type fabric. With the same fabric, you could make a matching clutch (or make a cover for a clutch/purse/bag you already own. Attach it with snaps or velcro…something you could change out or easily remove later.) Wear a chunky beaded necklace picking up one of the colors in your sash/belt/bag. I’m thinking bright yellow, tangerine or fuschia would look awesome with the brown dress. Or even a chunky gold necklace. Definitely the wedges you already have. You can probably find some great fabric at a reasonable price and you would probably need less than a yard depending on the size of your purse/bag. Chunky necklace/earrings from Claire’s are usually super cheap and come in tons of colors. You could even use the fabric to cover a headband for both you and Ryann. I think that would look fabulous! Plus you might even have enough of your budget left over for a treat to Starbucks! :) I tried to find some sample pix to attach, but had no luck. But you are creative so I think you can visualize what I’m saying.

Good luck! I know you’ll look beautiful no matter what you decide!

I’m not entering but here are my suggestions. I played with your pic.

I think either a necklace in the length of the pic, a belt, and the wedges. But if it’s cooler I suggest a belt and pretty scarf and the boots. :)

Ok I got this one. All are optional and I do not suggest wearing them all at once.

You need a chunk belt around your waist, like this one (http://www.target.com/Merona-Stretch-Belt-Black) but I would go for a color that matches your knee high boots (yes!).

Also colored tights. black maybe? navy if your boots are brown.

A dangle necklace. (meaning not a chocker) I’ve got one here I’m willing to lend out from 10,000 villages. something like this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/61336765 or http://www.etsy.com/listing/68147879 or anything else that can bring in color.

As an alternative to the necklace go for a light-weight scarf. like this one: http://www.target.com/Global-Girlfriend-Fall-Bloom-Scarf/ OR one that brings in the colors from the boot/belt combo and adds accent.s

earrings: something dangly, not too attention crazed: (http://www.etsy.com/listing/63728310) or something brass inspired (http://www.etsy.com/listing/65016797)

I’m sure you have SOME of those accessories around! So belt (you can sew one), scarf or long necklace, and earrings. Add your boots and some darker tights and voilla! you will work that runway, err, aisle, at church!
