Maybe Daddy does know best?
Posted on Thursday, July 15th, 2010
I’m hijacking the blog today since JPW told me he wasn’t sure if he was posting today. But I’m dedicating this post to a “Daddy moment”.
As I stood in our bathroom drying my hair, Ryann excitedly crawled towards me as she has an intense fascination with the hair dryer. But the closet door stopped her, not literally, as it wasn’t in her way, but she found it intriguing and the sliding doors piqued her interest. She crept closer as I watched her in the mirror. My initial mommy reaction was to scoop her up and remove from a potential finger squishing situation. JPW spotted her too. But in his mind he saw it as a learning situation. He opened and closed the door for her, explaining to her, “Open”. ”Close”. He let her try and pull up on the basket weave laundry hamper, while telling her, “Laundry Basket”. She stroked the rough basket weave texture and smiled in joy. Ryann reached for the iron sitting in the corner, JPW said, “That’s an iron”. “Iron”. And as quickly as she crawled toward the closet, she was done exploring. Together, they slid the closet door closed, hand over hand and moved along to continue the morning routine. All while I watched in the mirror’s reflection.
Daddy knows best, too. And in these moments I’m thankful JPW has A.D.D. and is ALWAYS curious about how and why things work, because he takes 3 minutes out of our morning routine to take advantage of a teachable moment.

what a sweet post! Sometimes us moms get way too caught up in our morning routines and just rush through it all. I find my husband doing small things like that too that make me just take a step back to breathe and be so thankful for him.

She's a smart little chica already. You can tell she's curious and wants to know about everything. Just glad we both explain it all to her. The hair dryer still perplexes her!

My kid loves the hair dryer too. I think some kids find the sweeper fascinating, but she has yet to see me use that, so….
Love this age. Love it, love it, love it. Well, minus the tantrums, but the curiosity and the learning is so cool.

My husband is like this also! He explains and lets her touch everything! I have been trying to let her fall a little as she learns but I have to say it is soo hard!!

That's really cute- Mason has a fascination with the shower curtain… so peculiar.
I love seeing the dads take initiative to "parent." It took a while for my husband to get into the groove, but once he realized how much fun a mobile baby is he's been a natural!
Some days it's as though I'm not even there! LOL

I love that! It's really hard for me to remember to let Hubby handle things from time to time. Sometimes they really do know best. Moms need to step back more to encourage that. At least moms like me.

So sweet! The curiosity of kids really is incredibly cool! They find the most random things interesting & I love that the smallest things can teach so much.
Such a cute story!

My hubs is just like JP. He's always stopping to explain to how things work and what things are. Even as an itty bitty baby, he would walk her through what he was cooking and how to chop vegetables. (Don't worry, he wasn't holding whilst cooking
). I've even caught myself explaining to Abigail, when we let the dog out the back door, that doggie goes potty outside, Abby goes potty in her pants, and Mommy and Daddy go potty in the toilet. It's pretty silly, but how else is she going to learn…right?

super sweet. love the moments where we get to sit back and watch our babes discover the world around them. I love how my hub takes more time for the simple/small things. I think as moms we are often on the go and forget those little moments.

This is so sweet! I love it when daddied teach their babies. I found my husband doing something similar with our daughter – showing her "open" and "close" on the kitchen cabinets.

This is cute! I find myself stopping to tell Eddie what things are and letting him try things too. maybe it's my ADD working too! I just love to watch him learn! Isn't that just the best?
